I’ve got big things planned for 2017. Well, not planned – but I can feel that big things are going to happen. Good things.
I hate the concept of resolutions (they do seem to get a bad rep lately, don’t they?). I dislike the whole idea that someone is going to make a decision to change just because they’re going to be signing a different date next to their name. The year we’re in is just another detail – its a number. It does not define the way we act, or the way we’ve decided we are going to act.
To summarize – I hate resolutions. yet, when I think about the fact that we are in 2017, I get giddy inside. There are things I want to strive for this year – we’ll call them: goals. Crazy, isn’t it? I’ve been thinking about them for awhile, and I’m really going to give it my best, most organized, hopefully most passionate shot. Here goes:
Goals to begin working on in 2017, and to continue working at them for the rest of my life:
Simplicity. I want desperately to simplify my life. I suffer from anxiety and while material clutter doesn’t bother me, mental clutter does. I hope that by decluttering my external world, I will somehow declutter my internal world as well.
Stop buying lunch at work. I know I know, I’m one of THOSE people, that always makes excuses as to why I don’t bring lunch. I’ll do you one better – I used to be one of THOSE people that bought breakfast AND lunch at work. I’ve stopped buying breakfast, but am still pretty dependent on going out for lunch. That stops now. I’ve decided – starting January 4th that I will stop buying lunch. If I get to the end of the month successfully, I’ll reward myself.
Take my dog to the park more. He’s awesome. He keeps me sane. He deserves it.
