Ohh, Rihanna. I have to say, I wasn’t expecting much from her makeup brand – be it prejudice against celebrity products, or what have you. I’ll be honest, my friend tried a sample from Sephora first, let me know about its full coveragey-ness, and I immediately went out to snag a bottle for myself.
FF to me hopping over to Sephora on my lunch break. I finally found the Fenty counter (which I had NO idea was going to be as huge as it was), and the color selection is legendary. I don’t think there’s a shade it doesn’t cover (unless you’re from Avatar or something….). Anyway, I went ahead and enlisted the help of one of the SA’s and it turns out this foundation oxidizes. Like, a lot.
I had originally used Sephora’s Color IQ to match me before I went into the store and boy was it off… by like, 5-10 shades (this is me cringing behind the monitor). In the bottle, this is officially one of the lightest foundation shades I own… even though once it oxidizes, it matches my others with about 95% accuracy.
Consistency is on the thicker side, which might intimidate some of you, but never fear… unlike my friend, I wouldn’t consider this particularly ‘full coverage’. This foundation is medium coverage at best, though definitely buildable.
For application, I actually prefer a damp beauty blender sponge. This may surprise some, since most prefer to apply this one with a dense buffing brush, BUT, being that I have dry skin, the beauty blender really helps the foundation apply with a more… hydrating (?) finish. It looks about 20-30% less dry on my face than when applied with a buffing brush.
Longevity- it stays on all day, until I’m getting ready for bed, which is HUGE, especially since I don’t set this. Thaaaat’s right, this foundation is self-setting, so no more translucent powder for me. I do, however, occasionally spritz some Urban Decay setting spray on top – I feel like this helps the foundation really jive with my skin, and helps it look more natural. Crucial step for when I use a buffer brush.
Overall, I give this one a solid 9/10. I’m not crazy about the oxidization, as it makes shade matching a pain in the ass, but at $34 the price is right, the packaging is beautiful, and the longevity is ON POINT. Those with oily skin will LOVE this, those with dry skin – don’t be afraid. It’s not cakey, and while it can be a little clingy to some dry spots, a damp beauty blender and/or hydrating setting spray makes it aalll better 😉
